Habibitch

Littéraire, historien.ne et sociologue de formation, c’est en 2013 qu’Habibitch décide de se consacrer à la danse, se spécialisant dans le Waacking et le Voguing. Également militant.e pour les droits des minorisé.e.s depuis presque 10 ans, iel se construit ensuite une pratique de la danse engagée, en créant notamment «Décoloniser le dancefloor» : une conférence dansée à l’intersection de l’histoire et de la sociologie. L'essence du travail d’Habibitch consiste à redonner aux danses de club leur signification et leur portée politiques et mettre en valeur leurs aspects communautaires et revendicatifs. Queer racisé.e intersectionnel.le décolonial.e, Habibitch politise sa danse et danse sa politique. Iel est également égérie Adidas depuis maintenant 2 ans et la marque l’a notamment accompagné.e dans le financement de son premier documentaire, produit par Noise Gate, Décoloniser le dancefloor, abordant son militantisme. Depuis Mars 2023, Habibitch est en tournée internationale aux côtés de Sam Smith faisant partie de sa troupe de danseur.euse.s.

A scholar, historian and sociologist by training, Habibitch decided to devote themselves to dance in 2013, specializing in Waacking and Voguing. They have also been an activist for the rights of minorities for almost 10 years, and have built up a committed dance practice, notably by creating "Décoloniser le dancefloor": a dance conference at the intersection of history and sociology. The essence of Habibitch's work lies in restoring the political significance and scope of club dances and highlighting their community and protest aspects. Queer, racialized, intersectional and decolonial, Habibitch politicizes their dance and dances their politics. They have also been the face of Adidas for the past 2 years, and the brand helped finance her first documentary, Decolonizing the Dancefloor, produced by Noise Gate, about their activism. Since March 2023, Habibitch has been on an international tour alongside Sam Smith as part of their troupe of dancers.
